On Sunday, January 12, 1975, at 3:30 PM, Reverend James Edward Lewis was led by the Holy Spirit to find a home for his new mission, Resurrection Baptist Church! The First worship service of Resurrection was held at Parish Hall here in Washington, DC. The church had 16 members that Sunday, igniting the torch that is still kindling today.

To become a local body of believing saints who uphold and follow the bible. To fellowship one with another on one accord, break bread together, pray together and forsake not our assembly; to worship the Lord God. We are striving to be a church where we meet the needs of all men, and especially the saints. To be devoted to church growth by telling the world that Jesus is the savior, the only begotten Son of God, opening our hearts in Christian love to welcome all whom the lord will add to this branch of Zion.
To proclaim God's word, stand on His word, and BELIEVE in His word! To worship in a way that changes us and others. To develop Christ-centered leaders who lead by example. To give excellence in everything at all times. To be willing to step out in faith. To expect all the congregation to participate in every ministry of the church. To continue to practice God's love by loving one another. To give generously of the resources God gave us as a church and individuals. To maintain harmony within the body of Christ at all times. To engage in Evangelism with enthusiasm!
The meaning of "salvation" refers to the act by which God forgives a sinner and brings him into a new, life-giving, covenant relationship with Himself through His Son, Jesus Christ. This act is solely the work and will of God. Man cannot save himself, nor neither can man bestow this salvation. Salvation is a gift from God, unmerited by any man. It is a gift of grace!
